    Optimal transport theory and geometric modelling of polycrystalline materials

    This thesis looks at an application of optimal transport theory in materials science and computational geometry. In particular, we use optimal transport to generate Laguerre tessellations that have cells of prescribed volumes and centroids. Laguerre tessellations can be used to model the microstructure of polycrystalline materials, such as metals. We study methods for generating synthetic microstructures and fitting Laguerre tessellations to Electron BackScattering Diffraction (EBSD) images of metals.
