An examination into the impact of quality compliance on HE Management : a case study of a privately owned HE Institution (HEI) in Trinidad.
    (Heriot-Watt University, 2019-12) Mohammed, Salisha
This thesis explores the impact of a quality assurance agency on a privately owned HE Institution. The research seeks to investigate the influence of a regulatory stakeholder on the decision making process and ultimately strategic direction of the institution. The data was collected in two phases; structured questionnaires followed by semi-structured interviews. The respondents included both academic and non-academic managers from the case study company. The study reveals growing influence of two stakeholders within the external environment of the HEI; a quality assurance agency and the Government. Both entities operate with separate governance structures, however it has been discovered that the Government’s influence over the quality assurance agency increased for the duration of the investigation. This influence took the form of funding (tuition), the Government aggressively sought to control funding for programmes through institutional accreditation. As uncertainty within the external environment increased, management of the HEI were forced to re-engineer their stakeholder management strategies.
